Marcos Lazzarotto

Marcos Mazzola Lazzarotto, a native of Bento Goncalves, Brazil has burst onto the scene at just 22 years of age. Marcos attended the University of Virginia and joined the cycling team in 2009. Like some of the other youngsters on this year’s team, Marcos’ skills have increased quickly.

In January 2009, Marcos suffered a crash that sent him to the hospital with a concussion and bad wounds. Instead of letting it slow him down, he found a great deal of inspiration and motivation to improve.  At the end of 2011, he earned his category 2 upgrade. He went on to have a great collegiate season topped off by winning the Conference Championship Road Race thanks to an impressive solo breakaway.  Since then he has been on the path to become a professional cyclist.  Marcos learns and improves a little with every race. He has already earned several good results this year and now has his eyes on the Nature Valley Best Amateur jersey and a spot on a pro team.
